How to Care for Cut Roses: Keep Your Blooms Looking Fresh
There’s nothing quite like receiving a luxurious bouquet of roses—especially when they arrive beautifully arranged in a signature hatbox. At Landeau, our roses are designed to make an impression, but to keep them looking stunning for as long as possible, a little care goes a long way. Here’s everything you need to know to extend the life of your roses and keep them fresh and vibrant.
1. Check the Water Every Few Days
Each of our hatbox arrangements includes a vase hidden inside. While the roses arrive perfectly hydrated, it’s essential to check the water level every two to three days. Roses drink more than you might expect, and keeping their stems submerged ensures they stay nourished. If the water looks cloudy, replace it with fresh, room-temperature water to prevent bacteria buildup.
2. Trim the Stems at an Angle
To maximize water absorption, trim the stems at a 45-degree angle every couple of days. This prevents the ends from sealing up and allows the roses to drink more efficiently. Use sharp scissors or floral shears to avoid crushing the stems, which can limit their ability to take in water.
3. Keep Roses Away from Heat and Direct Sunlight
Roses are delicate, and excessive heat can cause them to wilt quickly. Keep your arrangement away from direct sunlight, heating vents, or radiators. Ideally, place your bouquet in a cool, shaded area to maintain its freshness.
4. Remove Fading Petals
As roses bloom, it’s natural for some outer petals to start to fade or curl. Gently removing these petals helps the bouquet maintain a polished look and prevents premature wilting. Just be careful not to disturb the healthy petals underneath.
5. Avoid Placing Near Fruits
Fruits like apples and bananas release ethylene gas, which can speed up the aging process of flowers. Keeping your roses away from fruit bowls can help them stay fresh longer.
6. Refresh the Display
If your roses start to droop, a quick refresh can work wonders. Re-cut the stems, change the water, and place the bouquet in a cooler spot overnight. This can often revive slightly wilted blooms and give them new life.
Caring for your roses doesn’t have to be complicated—just a few simple steps can make all the difference. Whether you're enjoying a bouquet yourself or sending one as a thoughtful gift, proper care ensures the beauty lasts. Looking for more tips on luxury floral arrangements?
